Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Charcoal ("we", "us", "our") is a minimal home screen for Android, developed by CKT Group LLC. It replaces the grid of icons with a short list of the apps you choose.

Charcoal collects no personal data whatsoever. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no crash reporting. Nothing you do in Charcoal is transmitted anywhere.

2. Why We Cannot Collect Your Data

Charcoal does not request the INTERNET permission. Android enforces this at the operating-system level, which means the app is technically incapable of opening a network connection. This is not a promise about what we choose to do — it is a limit the operating system places on what the app is able to do at all.

You can verify this yourself: open your device's Settings, find Charcoal in the app list, and review its permissions.

3. Permissions Charcoal Requests

• VIBRATE — a short haptic tick when you press and hold something.
• EXPAND_STATUS_BAR — lets a downward swipe open the notification shade.

That is the complete list. Charcoal requests no access to your location, contacts, camera, microphone, photos, files, or accounts.

4. What Charcoal Stores on Your Device

Charcoal saves your preferences in Android's standard private app storage, which only Charcoal can read:

• Which apps you pinned to your home screen, and their order
• Which apps you hid, and any apps you renamed
• The note you wrote, if you wrote one
• Your text size, typeface, alignment, text colour, and status-bar preference
• Your chosen clock app, calendar app, and corner button

This information never leaves your device, and it is deleted when you uninstall Charcoal. Charcoal does not participate in Android's cloud backup, so no copy of it is stored anywhere else.

5. Reading Your Installed Apps

To do its job, a launcher must know which apps are installed on your device. Charcoal reads this list from Android in order to draw it on screen. The list is never recorded, stored, or transmitted — and, per Section 2, could not be transmitted even if we wanted to.

6. Purchases

Charcoal is a one-time purchase. Payment is handled entirely by Google Play; we never receive your payment-card details. Your purchase and entitlement are managed by your Google account.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

We hold no data about you, so there is nothing for us to retain or delete. To remove everything Charcoal has stored, uninstall the app - that deletes all of it, and there is no copy anywhere else.

8. Children's Privacy

Charcoal is a general-audience app, is not directed at children, and collects no personal information from anyone — including children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your region).

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above when we do. Because Charcoal has no network access, it cannot notify you of changes; please check this page.
