Nila — Indian Food & Health
1. Overview
Nila ("we", "us", "our") is a food and nutrition app developed by The CKT Group LLC. Nila lets you identify Indian, South Asian, and everyday Western dishes — by photo, by name, or by voice — and see estimated calories, macronutrients, and health information. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties, and we do not use your data for advertising.
2. Information We Collect
Account information: When you sign in, we collect your email address. Nila uses passwordless sign-in (a one-time code emailed to you) or Google / Apple sign-in. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your email address and, where you permit it, your name. We never receive or store your email, Google, or Apple password.
Food and nutrition logs: Dishes you search for or log, along with the associated nutrition estimates (calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat, fiber, sodium), health indicators, and any daily calorie goals you set. This is the information that makes up your personal food history.
Food photos: If you photograph or upload a food image, that image is sent to our processing service to identify the dish and estimate its nutrition (see Section 4). If you then save a log that includes the photo, the image may be stored in your account so you can review it later.
Voice input: If you use voice entry, the audio is transmitted for transcription into text and is not retained after transcription is complete.
Health & fitness data (optional): If you choose to connect Health Connect (Android) or Apple Health (iPhone), Nila reads your steps and, where available, your workouts — such as activity type, duration, distance, and calories burned — to show your daily activity and to add calories you burn back to your daily calorie budget. This data is read only with your explicit permission, which you can review or revoke at any time in your device's Health Connect or Apple Health settings. Steps are read live and shown for motivation; workouts you add or that are imported are stored in your account so they appear in your history. We never use this data for advertising and never share it for marketing.
Subscription information: If you start a trial or purchase a subscription, we receive your subscription and entitlement status (active, trial, expired) from our payments provider. We never receive your full payment card details — those are handled directly by the Apple App Store or Google Play.
Usage data: We collect only the minimal technical information necessary to operate the service. We do not run third-party advertising or behavioral tracking.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information above to: identify foods and provide nutrition and health estimates; save and display your food history and trends; sync your account across your devices; manage your free trial and subscription; and operate, secure, and improve the app.
4. AI Processing of Photos and Queries
To identify a dish and estimate its nutrition, the food photo or text/voice query you submit is sent over an encrypted connection through our Cloudflare Worker proxy to Google's Gemini AI for analysis. The result (a dish name and nutrition estimate) is returned to the app.
This processing is performed only to answer the request you initiated. Anonymous, non-account dish results may be cached on our servers to make future lookups faster and reduce cost; this cache stores the dish data only, not your identity. Nutrition and health values are estimates and are not a substitute for professional medical or dietary advice.
5. Third-Party Services
Nila relies on the following service providers to operate. Data is transmitted to them over encrypted (HTTPS/TLS) connections.
- Supabase — secure authentication and database storage for your account, food logs, and (if saved) photos. Access is protected by row-level security so you can only access your own data.
- Cloudflare — our API proxy that routes requests between the app and AI providers.
- Google (Gemini AI) — processes food photos and text/voice queries to identify dishes and estimate nutrition. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- Groq — transcribes voice input into text when you use voice entry. Subject to Groq's Privacy Policy.
- RevenueCat — manages trials and subscription entitlements.
- Apple App Store / Google Play — process payments for subscriptions. We do not receive your payment card details.
6. Health-Related Information
The food logs, nutrition estimates, goals, and any health & fitness data you connect (steps and workouts read from Health Connect or Apple Health) may reflect aspects of your diet and health. We treat this information as private to your account. We do not sell it, share it for advertising, or use it to train AI models, and we do not store steps read from Health Connect or Apple Health on our servers. This information is used only to provide the app's features to you.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
Your account information and food history are retained while your account is active so the app can show your history and trends. To delete your account and all associated personal data — including your food logs and any saved photos — contact us from your account email address at the address below, or follow the steps at stingwaveapp.com/nila-delete-account. We process verified deletion requests within 30 days.
8. Data Security
We apply technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including: encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) for all data sent between the app, our servers, and service providers; row-level security on your stored data so only your authenticated account can access it; and storage of API keys and secrets as server-side environment variables that are never embedded in the app. In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify affected users and take prompt remediation steps.
9. Children's Privacy
Nila is intended for adults (18 and over) and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above when we do. Continued use of Nila after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
